March and April mark the transition from wet to dry season. March still sees rain, but April is much drier. Temperatures are consistent at 13-14°C. Fewer crowds than peak dry season.
May through September is the dry season — the best time for trekking. Clear mornings offer the most photogenic conditions at the citadel. June's Inti Raymi festival in Cusco is spectacular.
October begins the transition to wet season with increasing afternoon showers. November gets wetter but morning visits to the citadel are often clear. Fewer visitors than dry season.
The wet season (December-March) brings daily rain and muddy trails. The Inca Trail closes in February for maintenance. However, the dramatic clouds and lush vegetation create atmospheric photos.

Plan my Machu Picchu tripJune through August is the busiest period, especially during Inti Raymi (June 24) and Fiestas Patrias (July 28-29). Inca Trail permits sell out 6+ months in advance for these months.
December through February (wet season) offers the lowest prices, but expect rain. The Inca Trail closes in February. January and March are affordable with some clear days.
May through September provides the best conditions for the Inca Trail, Salkantay Trek, and citadel visits with dry trails and clear mountain views.
