March through May is the "long rains" season with heavy afternoon downpours. April is the wettest month. Roads in national parks can become impassable. Game viewing is poor.
The dry season (June-October) coincides with the Great Migration in the Masai Mara. July through September is prime safari time with the dramatic river crossings.
October marks the end of peak safari season and the start of "short rains" in November. The landscape transitions from dry savannah to green within weeks.
December through February is a secondary dry season with warm weather and good game viewing. January and February are excellent for safari with fewer crowds than July-September.
